KLMust I be a client living with HIV/AIDS to live in AH-owned Housing?
No. Some properties DO have requirements and the appropriate modifications for disability/special needs, but nothing excludes you from inquiring about a waitlist or applying.
KLAre there income requirements?
Yes. In compliance with Federal, State and City of Key West guidelines, there are household income minimum and maximum thresholds. Our Housing staff can personally explain more.
KLCan I be on a waitlist?
Yes, only if the waitlist is open for each property.
KLHow many people can live in a unit? What is household composition?
A maximum of two people per bedroom is allowed. Household composition is the number of people in a household which includes, spouses, children, roommates, caregivers, and parents.
KLAre AH-owned properties pet-friendly?
Yes, a total of 50 lbs. of pet meaning one pet at 50 lbs. or a total of two pets not exceeding 50 lbs. Pets are defined as cats and dogs; birds and other exotic animals are not allowed.
KLWill my apartment come with a provided parking space?
No. Parking is first come/first served only. A resident sticker is issued to each tenant for one car only, however parking is not guaranteed.
KLCan my rent increase?
The amount of rent may increase and/or decrease depending on rental and utility allowance guidelines published annually from Federal, State, and Local authorities.
KL Is there a washer and dryer in apartment?
Only Marty’s Place has a washer and dryer in each unit. With the exception of McCarthy Rogers, all other properties have shared washer and dryer laundry rooms on site. McCarthy Rogers does NOT have available laundry services at this time.
KLWhat income counts towards qualifying for an apartment?
All income from every household source will be verified for those who intend to live in the unit.
KLHow many bedrooms are in each apartment?
Properties range from one bedroom only to properties with 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms. Visit our Properties page to access further information on apartment sizes and additional details specific to each property.
KLIs my rent based on my income?
Yes, income is factored into rent and unit eligibility. McCarthy Rogers, Harvey House, and Seebol Triplex also require at least one household member be disabled. All other properties’ rental amounts are determined annually by the State.
KLDo you accept Housing Choice Vouchers?
Yes, housing subsidy programs such as Housing Choice Voucher Program (previously known as Section 8), HOPWA, and VASH are accepted at the following properties: Poinciana Royale, Seebol Place, Marty’s Place and The Lofts at Bahama Village.
KLAre utilities included in the rent?
Only water, sewer, and trash collection are included in the rent for all properties. Basic cable services are included for all properties except for Marty’s Place and The Lofts at Bahama Village.
KLIf I lose my job or become sick, will my rent be adjusted?
No. Tenants are responsible for the full amount of rent on the lease.
KLDo you have handicap-accessible apartments? Or can I request a handicap unit if I should require one in the future?
Handicap units are available on all properties and can be requested (subject to availability).
KLIf I live out of State, can I apply for an apartment?
All properties have a residency preference to serve applicants living in Monroe County, Florida. The Lofts at Bahama Village has City of Key West tenancy requirements. Anyone can apply to be on a waitlist for any property when the waitlist is open. An applicant on the waitlist from outside of Monroe County, Florida is eligible for a unit if not filled through residency preference. Refer to the Tenant Selection process for each property from the Property Management Office.
