Unsung Hero: Raymond “Mr. Fitz” Fitzhenry

Since 2001, the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys has hosted an annual Unsung Heroes celebration to recognize volunteers whose behind-the-scenes service strengthens our community. Each year, Monroe County 501(c)(3) nonprofits are invited to nominate one individual whose unpaid contributions make a meaningful difference.

This year, AH Monroe and Florida Keys Outreach Coalition were honored to nominate Raymond Fitzhenry—known to many as Mr. Fitz.

For the past five years, Mr. Fitz has served as the full-time volunteer pantry manager at Loaves & Fish Food Pantry. He not only keeps the pantry organized and running smoothly, but greets every client with warmth, dignity, and a welcoming smile. Thanks to his dedication, more than 250 households each month receive nutritious food and compassionate support.

Mr. Fitz’s steady presence and selfless commitment embody the spirit of community care that the Unsung Heroes recognition was created to honor. We are grateful for his service and proud to celebrate him.
